Splitters Creek

This new house sits on 3.6 hectares of woodland and grassland at Splitters Creek, just outside Albury, on the clients’ favourite picnic spot, looking north over the hills. They were a young family moving to a new town, and they wanted a home that was relaxed, welcoming and built around family life: connected spaces, each a little different, so everyone could be doing their own thing without being apart.

The site didn’t make it easy. It’s steep and rocky, and the house steps down it in three split levels that follow the natural fall of the land. We worked hard to make those levels feel like one house rather than three. Generous steps and built-in joinery tie them together, and the sightlines run through from one level to the next, so the views and the family are never far away.

At the heart of it is a country kitchen: warm, practical and made for a household that’s always in and out of it.
